Assalamualaikum! May the Peace and Blessings of God be Upon You.

Welcome to the blog site for the Al-Ikhwan Soccer Club (FC AI). At the time when this is being written, our Men's league team is about to embark on its 3rd Outdoor season in Edmonton District Soccer Association (EDSA) Men's league soccer action. In our Welcome note published in our Indoor 2005/06 Player package we addressed some important points and I'd like to borrow from there because I believe it was said well the first time and must be reemphasized.

FC AI has been blessed with young and talented players who will undoubtedly help take our soccer to another level as we write another chapter in FC AI soccer history. As the handful or so "originals" so fondly remember, we began as a group of youth who loved soccer, their deen, and their community. Alhamdulillah, we would have never imagined that we would have the honour to play for a Muslim soccer club which has quickly grown into a full-fledged youth club with big plans for the future, not the least of which is a promising youth centre in Edmonton's south side.

By now, with many years of experience and skilled players added to our roster, our soccer has technically become top-notch. However, we would be fools to forget what brought us this far. FC AI was built on a tradition of dedication to community and deen (religion & way of life), dignity, and brotherhood. Basically, carrying ourselves in the best manner possible, both on and off the field.

Whether you play for us, would like to play for us, or are a spectator, we ask that you continue to remain by our side and encourage us. On this blog we'll be posting practice and game information so as a player it's your duty to stay informed. As a spectator, we'd love your encouragement from the sidelines as we take on our opponents.

As we eagerly anticipate the future, we must never forget our roots. Yet at the same time it would be wise to take note of Sheikh Yassir Fazega's advice: "Do not become prisoners of your memories or captives of imagination."

May Allah aid us in our journey. Ameen.
